BTU Among the Top 500 Most Sustainable Universities in the World

The results of UI GreenMetric 2023 have been announced. Bursa Technical University (BTU) ranked 438th globally and 38th in Turkey in the GreenMetric index, which determines the world's greenest universities.

UI GreenMetric evaluates universities' sustainability efforts in categories such as campus setting and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste, water resources, transportation, education, and research. In the "2023 World University Ranking" announced by UI GreenMetric, BTU successfully ranked among the top 500 universities, ranking as the "438th Most Sustainable University in the World" among 1,183 universities. In 2022, BTU was ranked 542nd among 1,050 universities, marking an improvement of 104 positions this year. Additionally, BTU rose 9 positions in the Turkish ranking, from 47th place in 2022 to 38th place among 98 universities in 2023. BTU also improved its position in the Asia ranking, moving from 285th in 2022 to 232nd this year. Achieving significant success in ranking criteria compared to the previous year, Bursa Technical University particularly excelled in the categories of Transportation, Energy and Climate Change, Education and Research, and Waste.

Important Work with the Sustainable University Coordination Office

BTU Rector Prof. Dr. Naci Çağlar stated that, in addition to providing quality education, Bursa Technical University has made significant strides in environmental, infrastructure, and sustainability principles. "We are fulfilling our responsibilities in our university campuses on topics such as renewable energy, clean operations, and waste management, and we are producing more environmentally friendly projects for the industry to ensure sustainability. To support the work we are conducting within BTU, we established the 'Sustainable University Coordination Office.' Under the leadership of this office, we will continue to make significant strides in areas such as accessible campuses, live ecosystems, healthy communities, and green buildings. We have seen the fruits of all these efforts in the UI GreenMetric Greenest University ranking. I would like to thank my entire team for their contributions to this ranking," he said.
